Facebook Updates Screwing With Everyone: Please Read!

Facebook has done it again.  New updates and changes have messed with just about everyone.

Some of you may have noticed that friends or pages you used to see updates from have suddenly disappeared.  That’s because Facebook’s newest updates have dictated that you only see updates from friends and pages you “interact” with, meaning you visit the page often, comment, or “like” things.  So if you got updates from someone/a page and simply read them, their updates might be gone.

If CGA’s updates no longer appear in your feed, there are one of two ways I see that you can fix it.

  1. On the main Facebook page, click the dropdown box listed as “Most Recent” on the top right of your feed.  Then click “Edit Options” at the bottom.  In the window that comes up, click the dropdown box next to “Show posts from:”, and select “All your friends and pages”.
  2. The other way I see to fix it, if you don’t want to see posts from ALL the pages and friends you have, is simply to go to Cheap Geeks Anonymous’ page and like or comment on a few posts.  Granted, I don’t know if this actually works so don’t yell at me if it doesn’t!  I just figure if Facebook wants you to interact with a page in order to see it, you’ll start seeing it if you interact!

So, if you want to continue getting my updates, do one of the two listed above!  If you don’t like my page, maybe you should head over and like me!

Facebook Movie Is…a Hit?

image

I never would have expected this.  The Social Network, or the Facebook movie, amazingly topped the box offices last weekend, earning $23 million.  Not a huge amount compared to, say, James Cameron’s Avatar, but it was enough, apparently.

On IMDb (the Internet Movie Database), the movie is currently rated 8.7/100, and is in the top 250 movies by popularity.  According to Rotten Tomatoes, known for sometimes harsh critic ratings, the average rating is 9.1/10 (172 out of 177 critics found the movie “fresh”, whereas 5 found it “rotten”), and 81% of audiences liked it.

This surprises me, especially since Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg wishes the movie had never been made, and other friends and colleagues of Mark have said the movie gives an inaccurate depiction.  That, to me, would be obvious; almost any movie “based on” real events dramatizes everything to make it more interesting or strange, and really, the only truth to it are the well-known facts (like Mark being the founder of Facebook).

So, will you be going to The Social Network?  I know I won’t.
