A little over a month ago, a large yellow package appeared at my door labeled “Stimulus Package.” Inside was a case of Golden Grahams (12 boxes) that I had won from a sweepstakes from General Mills. After that, my boyfriend started entering the same sweepstakes. After a week or two, it ended. Then a couple weeks later, another yellow box showed up! BigJones was almost angry that we had another 12 boxes of the same cereal, and we had only eaten through 3 boxes from the first case.
Well, I decided instead of eating the same cereal every morning, I would try and find ways to use up the Golden Grahams in more creative ways. So when my mom gave me a bag of apples when I last visited, I got the idea to make Apple Crisp with Golden Grahams. It turned out pretty damn well!
Here’s the recipe. Note: I’ve never written a recipe before, so please let me know if anything is confusing!
What you will need:
- ~1 cup Brown Sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
- 4 cups Golden Grahams, half crushed
- Additional Golden Grahams to coat top
- 6-9 medium apples
- cinnamon, to taste
- Preheat oven to 375; grease 13X9 pan
- In a medium mixing bowl, partially crush 4 cups Golden Grahams so that there are very few or no whole pieces left
- Add brown sugar and butter; mix completely
- Slice apples and layer them on the bottom of the pan and sprinkle cinnamon over them (optional)
- Pour the Golden Graham mixture evenly over apples
- Layer additional Golden Grahams on top as desired
- Bake for 30 minutes or until apples are soft and slide off of a knife
- If desired, pour 1 or 2 cups of uncooked Golden Grahams on top for an added crunch
More Tips and Things:
- I used a full box of Golden Grahams, mostly because I wanted to use them up. If you like more apples and less “crisp”, still use 4 cups Golden Grahams in the mixture, but don’t sprinkle as much over top of that.
- This turned out to be pretty sweet because Golden Grahams are already sweetened. If you like it less sweet, use less brown sugar (3/4 cup)
