Welcome to Cheap Geeks Anonymous!

As my very first post on this blog, I thought I would say a little bit about myself and my hopes for this blog. 

First and foremost, a sampling of the author (aka me):

                 I am a college student living in the Midwest.  North Dakota, to be exact.  To clarify, ND is not stuck in the19th century, and it is not a frozen wasteland.  I am an English major.  Though writing isn’t exactly my forte (I prefer reading and editing), I still get by.  As a college student, I’m cheap.  I clip coupons, compare shop, and do almost everything I can to save money.  And ultimately, I am a geek.  I obsessively play video games, I read comic books, I love learning about new technologies, and almost every other geeky characteristic can be applied to me. 

Now, about the blog:

                I got the idea from other blogs I’ve read.  There are so many blogs out there about saving money, and I wanted to add in my two cents.  But I knew my blog had to be different.  First of all, a lot of the blogs I had been reading were written by moms.  Single moms, stay-at-home moms, working-and-raising-kids-but-still-finding-time-to-sit-down-and-type-out-blog-posts moms, you name it.  Frankly, I’m not a mom.  So I knew that I had to center my blog around something else.  And then, like a Holy Hand Grenade shining in the grass, I knew what the blog would reflect about me: Geekdom.  Therefore, “cheap geeks” was born. 

                Where did “anonymous” come from?  Well, one thing I don’t want to happen is for me to end up disclosing too much about my personal life. It is important to me to keep my audience, whoever they are, out of the specifics of my life.  I don’t necessarily agree with bloggers who post pictures of themselves, their families, their houses, their kids, their neighbors, their pets, their credit cards, their banks, their bills, their shoes, their new bra, etc. etc.  Some of it just doesn’t seem safe to me.  Though my blog will have a personal touch, I won’t be posting pictures of myself or my boyfriend (who lives with me) at every whim.  I know I can’t avoid posting pictures, though, so whenever my boyfriend (BigJones) or I (Flufferwuffer) appear in a picture, we will be wearing sunglasses. 

                I hope that fully explains how “Cheap Geeks Anonymous” was born.

On to the future!

                So, what’s this blog going to be about?  If you haven’t already noticed, I try to keep things light.  I tend to be a little sarcastic, but keep in mind that I’m not really serious.  I hope to host lots of giveaways, website reviews, include invaluable tips on saving money, and probably include recipes and creations of my own.  Ideally, the blog will be updated daily, unless the internet is out or there happens to be a zombie apocalypse (in which case, you may have to wait a couple of days).

                One last thing I would like to point out is that even though I am a college student, and I’m gearing my writing and this blog to other geeky college students, you are free to read no matter what age you are, if you are in college or not, and, if you are not a geek, you are welcome to learn our ways.  If I make an obscure reference to a video game that you don’t understand, feel free to ask.  I will monitor comments, and any derogatory or mean comment will be deleted.
