No Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme…But That’s Not Gonna Stop Me!

Well, there aren’t any stores around participating in Donut Day, but that isn’t going to prevent me from having some scrumptious doughnuts!  So I’m making my own!

I have to admit, I’ve never made doughnuts before, so this was an exciting adventure.  Doughnuts are something I’ve always wanted to make so I was really happy that Donut Day gave me an excuse to make them.  I could have walked to the grocery store and bought some.  I could have had some Holey Donuts from the freezer.  But that would have been easy.  No, no, no, no…I had to do things the hard way.

So, I used this recipe and used whole wheat flour instead of white flour.

Since I basically just dropped spoonfuls of the dough in oil, they turned out more like fritters than doughnuts.

On the top right of ^that picture^ you can see the iced coffee I had with breakfast.  An awesome iced coffee tip is to pour leftover coffee into ice cube trays and freeze it, so when you make iced coffee it doesn’t get watered down.  Works like a charm!

The applesauce doughnuts turned out awesomely!  But unfortunately, the recipe made a huge amount of doughnuts and I can’t possibly eat them all.  I’m going to save some for when I see my boyfriend tomorrow.  It would probably be a bad idea for me to be snacking on doughnuts all day.

**Update:  Yup, I ate too many doughnuts and ended up throwing up.  I’m really sensitive to greasy and oily foods.  Didn’t expect these to be so oily! But still good ^.^**

  2. So I have to share, at girls camp one year they made donuts to DIE FOR! With Pillsbury buttermilk (non flaky kind) biscuits. Just pop them out, poke a hole through the center and pull it out a little and fry the babies. With frosting they are SO good. Such a fun camping trip, but also just as good at home!
