One of the banes of being a gamer is the high cost of buying new games to play. No one loves shoveling out $60 or more every time an interesting game is released (especially me!). The good news is, just like almost everything else in life, there are multiple ways to save money on video games! Many people will tell simply tell you to buy games used instead of new. While there is no problem with that, there are others that frankly just prefer new games. There are many, many ways to buy a game brand new and still save tons of money (sometimes more than buying used!)
Many websites--Wal-mart, Amazon, Newegg--often offer gift card deals when you preorder. For example, at the writing of this post, Amazon is offering $20 credit when you preorder Portal 2. Plus, you get $5 off. How sweet is that? You pay full price, but with the gift card coming back to you, it’s as if you paid $35.99, or 30% off. The best way to use these deals is to continue preordering. Take that $20 credit you got from your first preorder, and use it to preorder another game that offers $20 back. Make sense? You continually get $20 (30%) off the game before it even hits shelves.

Per reader request, I’ll be posting preorder deals separate from other video game deals, because they tend to take up a lot of space. I’ll also try to do these once a week on Sundays or Mondays, because preorder deals don’t tend to change too often, and each week you’ll be able to see which games/stores are offering new or the same deals.
Also, I’ll be posting these by store instead of by gaming console. This way, if you have a store preference, you can browse that way. The other reason is because many gift card deals are the same across consoles (except the Wii, but that will be noted in the deals).

LOTS of preorder deals from Walmart! Really worth considering if you are getting those games when they release anyway. Ryan (BigJones) and I preordered Halo: Reach from Walmart and it came the day before release day. ^.^
I apologize that it’s been awhile since I’ve made a new Gaming Deals post. Eventually, I would like to be able to post new deals every day or every other day. Until I have a handle on everything else though (work, homework, classes, housework…), it will have to be sporadic!

For the next 70 hours (at the time of me posting this), you can get a pretty good, geeky/gadgety deal from Jasmere! If you don’t know Jasmere, it is a deal site that features different online businesses every few days (kind of like Groupon), offering an awesome discount to the retailer every time.
What makes it better is that the more people who buy the “voucher” or gift certificate, the lower the price. That’s why the title says “$29 or less”. It’s at 52% off right now, but it can go up to 70% off if enough people buy…making the OrigAudio voucher only $18! If you buy it now at $29 (or whatever it is when you click the link), your credit card doesn’t get charged until the deal is over, so you still get the lowest price.
You do have to sign up for an account, though. Fair warning. But all in all it’s a great site.
