Bestcovery.com $5 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway!

As consumers, most of us know that one of the best ways to ensure we buy the best product for our money consistently is by reading multiple reviews on a product before you buy it.  Be it a new HDTV, a Digital Camera, or just a new frying pan, reading what other people thought of whatever you’re buying can help prevent you from spending hundreds of dollars on something that, frankly, sucks.

That’s what bestcovery.com is trying to help you out with. Bestcovery.com does the work for you; instead of visiting multiple sites, forced to read through hundreds of various reviews, the folks at Bestcovery have consulted the experts, sifted through consumer opinions, and selected the best product in whatever category you’re looking for.  One thing I love about the site is that they break down each category into something specific; instead of just Digital Cameras, you can see the list of best Compact Cameras, best Digital SLR Camera, and many many more.  From there they break it down from the best, second best, etc., and continue by telling you why it ranks where it does and where you can buy it.  Cool, huh?
Anyway, I highly encourage you at least check out the site!  You’ll have to, too, if you’d like to win a $5 Amazon Gift Card!
--Giveaway--
The people at Bestcovery are pretty awesome, so they decided to offer one of my readers a $5 Amazon Gift Card!
Rules: One comment per entry, please!  One winner will be chosen.  Giveaway ends December 16th, 11:59 PM CST. Winner will be contacted via e-mail and will have 48 hours to respond before a new winner is chosen.
-Mandatory Entry-
Visit bestcovery.com and leave a comment here telling me what your favorite or least favorite Best List is, and what the site did that you liked/disliked.
-Extra Entries-

Disclaimer:  I didn’t receive any compensation for this post, and as always, everything is my opinion and mine alone!

Digital Soaps [Review] and Giveaway

Geekalicious.
I bet you’ve never heard that word before.  Me neither, until I asked my boyfriend for help starting out this review.  I just couldn’t think of a good way to start off that would grab people's’ attention and also be relevant to Digital Soaps.  So he told me to think of one word that describes the soap.
I said, “Geekalicious.”  And I totally think it fits.

From the Website

"Fight viruses and malicious spyware with original geeky soaps. From Xbox replica soaps that smell like Mountain Dew, to Wiimote, PlayStation, SEGA and NES replica soaps, DigitalSoaps offers an attractive soap to improve every gamer’s stink-to-clean ratio.

Committed to using only high quality ingredients, our mission is a Level 3 Quest to drench the gaming community in clean."

My Thoughts
Chrystal Doucette was generous enough to send me three different soaps to review: a Mountain Dew type-scented NES controller, A Green Apple candy-scented Xbox 360 controller, and Blackberry-scented Tetris soaps.
Appearance
IMG_2018I don’t know what Chrystal does to make these, but she does it damn well!  These soaps look very close to an NES controller or Xbox 360 controller.  The colors are very vibrant and almost exactly like their counterparts.
IMG_2028      I love the different colors of the Tetris soaps! I also liked that they were partially see-through.  When light shines through them, they almost seem to glow.

I didn’t have an NES controller handy, but check out this pic I snapped of the Xbox 360 controllers!

IMG_2026

Scent
I was pretty excited to see what the Mountain Dew-type scented soap would smell like.  Since I saw it on the site, I kept wondering if it would actually resemble Mountain Dew.
IMG_2016
The short answer is, it does.  Honestly, it’s not my favorite.  I used to really like Mountain Dew but I don’t drink it anymore.  This soap smells like it, but BigJones and I aren’t Mountain Dew fans, so we would probably never get it again (if there were a Monster Energy scent, though…).
The Green Apple Candy and Blackberry scents are absolutely awesome, though! You can smell it through the plastic packaging, but the scent isn’t overwhelming when you take the wrapping off.  And the best part is, I can still smell the lingering scent on my skin throughout the day, but again, it’s not overwhelming.

Soap!
How did it hold up in the shower?  I always worry about my skin feeling too dry once I’m out of the shower.  Frankly, it just sucks.  But the soap from Digital Soaps really, really impressed me!  Not only did I feel like a total geeky gamer girl washing myself with an NES controller, but the soap left my skin feeling moisturized inside the shower and out.  It didn’t leave that sticky yet dry feeling that some soaps do.
IMG_2030
IMG_2031

We’ve been using the Tetris soaps to wash our hands (because they work so well for that since they’re small) and they’ve been working great!  And they seem to last forever…we haven’t yet gone through one Tetris piece, and the couple we’ve been using don’t seem to be getting any smaller.  Suspicious…
Another plus is that Digital Soaps is committed to only using high-quality, vegan products to make the soap.  A list of ingredients can be found here.

OVERALL
As I said before: These soaps are Geekilicious.  So geekilicious, in fact, that I made up the word “geekilicious” just for this post.  To be honest, I haven't even used the Xbox 360 controller soap; it's sitting on display for our geeky friends!  These soaps would be absolutely awesome as a gift, but trust me, you’d probably be tempted to keep them for yourself!

Buy It!
You can buy controller soaps, cartridge soaps, console soaps, Mountain Dew shampoo and conditioner, Tetris soaps, and much more from DigitalSoaps.net or the Digital Soap Etsy shop!  Also, Chrystal has a promotion running right now where you can save 25% off your order on DigitalsSoaps.net by entering the code PS3PLAYER, XBPLAYER, or WIIPLAYER!

The Lady Herself Jewelry [Review, Interview, Giveaway]

I’ve never really been a fan of “traditional” jewelry.  Put a jewel on a chain, maybe cut it a different way, or maybe just a charm on the chain, or a steel design…it just doesn’t really click with me unless it’s something special.  Instead, I’ve always liked using jewelry to express my different tastes and “geeky” side.  Unfortunately, it’s terribly hard to find anything other than mainstream jewelry.  And that’s when I discovered Etsy.
And that’s where The Lady Herself comes in.
imageimageWhen I first happened upon Kate’s shop, I instantly feel in love with her ingenious array of geeky jewelry.  Upcycled circuit boards and dice were the main elements that caught my eye.  Just look at this stuff!

First, I sent Kate some interview questions so y'all could get to know her and her shop better.

Q: How did you find Etsy?
I actually have no recollection of how I found Etsy.

Q: Does the title “The Lady Herself” have significance?
My name is Katori, and when I went with a few friends to see Episode 3, one of my friends dubbed me Lady Katori-Dark Bitch of the Sith. After that, the name was shortened to Lady Katori, and that's how most of my friends knew me. A few months later my ex wrote of me as The Lady Herself, and it stuck.

Q: Where do you get the inspiration for your jewelry?
Well, the obvious answer is: I'm a huge geek. Have been for as far back as I can remember, and also grew up using every tool on the market. I'm now disabled, but before I got sick I co-owned and ran a small animatronics company, Skulltronix, that specializes in top of the line halloween products. I often found myself wanting to make other things out of the materials I was using. I think it was really at that time that I began really meshing industrial and geeky. I think the two are pretty linked (I don't sell a lot of the more industrial pieces, though), and figured if I was interested in geeky and industrial jewelry, there were probably others in the world that would be, too.

Q: Obviously, you’re a geek. What other geeky hobbies do you have?
Well, I have a geeky band, I play table top games, as well as computer and console games. I LARPed a few times, never really got into it. I also play WoW. I think my favorite table top game would be Warhammer Fantasy. I really like the game mechanics. I find them very logical. I love Star Trek. I've been to every opening night of a Star Trek movie in my lifetime, most of them in costume. Yes, I have a Star Trek costume. I read a lot. Can't wait for the next book in The Song of Ice and Fire series. They're by far the best books I've ever read. Really incredible.

Q: What are your future hopes for your Etsy shop?
Well, I really hope that I start feeling better, so I can make more products. I think that's the biggest thing holding me back at the moment.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to add about your shop or your jewelry?
I have a ton of stuff, and I love doing custom pieces. If anyone wants something specific, I hope they will be sure to ask. I've done many pieces for guys, so I hope guys won't shy away from the more girly products in my store.

Anyway, Kate graciously sent me a set of earrings and a custom-made necklace to review.
    IMG_2001IMG_2019

Aren't they beautiful?  You can't really see it from that specific picture, but the blue things on the necklace are all different style dice (D20, D10, D12, D4).  For those of you that don't know, dice like this are used for things like Dungeons and Dragons and other dice-based games.
I'm going to highlight and explain what I thought about this jewelry:

    • Craftsmanship
    • I am very impressed with the craftsmanship of these pieces!  Especially the necklace; it was so beautifully designed and made.  I asked Kate to make a custom piece because she mentioned that she loves doing custom work, so I had no idea what to expect until I opened up the package.  After picking it up I recognized how carefully and skillfully the necklace was made. Just notice in the picture how everything is linked together.
    Normal-sized D4 vs earring D4!
    • Beauty and Subtlety
    • At first, I will admit that I was a little sad that what I was sent wasn't made with circuit boards and other computer parts like some of my favorite pieces in her shop. I really liked the dice earrings but the first thing I noticed was that they're so small!  Here's a snapshot comparing the D4 earrings I received to a normal-sized D4.
Such a difference!  The dice in the necklace are the same proportions.  I first thought no one would notice my awesome geeky jewelry!  But, I was determined to put both to the test, so I donned both the necklace and earrings for work.  It took some of my geeky friends some time to notice, but I started getting compliments every time I turned around!
I realized that Kate's design must be genius.  These pieces don't scream "Hey, I'm a geek, accept me!", but anyone who knew what the dice where loved it.  And the design of the necklace could match almost any outfit of mine, from everyday clothes to dressy outfits!
      • Affordibility
      •  This is the final awesome thing about The Lady Herself's jewelry.  For the quality you get, the price of her work is phenomenal! Nothing in her shop is over $20.  For me, affordable jewelry is so hard to come by! Any necklace I've found in the past 5 years that I've actually liked has been well over $20.  The earrings might be a little on the pricey side for my frugal tastes, but for D20 earrings or Tetris earrings, it seems worth it!

      THE BOTTOM LINE:
Frankly, I adore The Lady Herself.  I will definitely be making future purchases (early Christmas, anyone?)!

      BUY IT!
Go here to make a purchase from The Lady Herself!

      WIN IT!
**GIVEAWAY ALERT!** Kate from The Lady Herself has graciously offered one of my readers their choice of item from her shop OR a custom piece! To enter the giveaway, check out this post!
**Note: In accordance with FCC guidelines, I was sent a pair of earrings and a necklace to review free of charge.  At the sponsor's request, I sent the necklace back, but the earrings were kept.  However, all opinions are 100% honest and 100% mine!**

      Fruits of My Labor

      winner

I enter sweepstakes.  A lot of them.  I’m not just talking about blog giveaways, here, I’m talking about instant win games, sweepstakes from magazines, big companies, etc.  Generally, when I tell my friends that I sit around every day and enter over 300 sweepstakes a day (not including blog giveaways) the first thing they ask happens to be “Is it worth it?”

      Well, yeah. It is!

I decided to go through my e-mails (I keep all my “You Won!” e-mails in a folder…yep, that includes blog wins…so I keep tabs on y’all!) and add up the ARV (Approximate Retail Value) of everything I’ve won up until July (basically the half-year mark).  Now, that isn’t entirely possible, because for most blog wins, the ARV isn’t given, and the prize might be something that’s not normally sold.  Sometimes, packages show up and I don’t know what sweepstakes they’re from.  But I did my best.

Excited to find out the total?

      Well, maybe I won’t tell!

But then…what would be the point…of posting this??

      Okay.  I’ll tell!

      $2,491.30

If I round up from the stuff that I don’t know the ARV from…then it’s:

$2,500.  Two thousand five hundred dollars worth of stuff.  (Actually, would be more, but I declined a grand prize worth $1000-and-some because I thought someone else could use it more)

I don’t know about you…but to me?  That’s a lot.  Considering it’s only half-way through the year, and I’m still entering tons of sweepstakes, I can assume that at the end of the year, I will have $5,000 worth of wins.

Let me break that down for you.

$5000 would pay for 16 months of rent for me.  If I wanted to pay my boyfriend’s half, we’d be paid up for 8 months.  $5000 would pay for 33 months of groceries for us.  $5000 is a year of tuition.  $5000 would fix my boy’s car.  $5000 is 250 corsets for me.

      Yeah, it’s a lot.

And though I obviously don’t win all cash…I tend to use the stuff I win.  I won 2 cases of cereal…okay, don’t need to buy that for a while.  It helps with bills!  I’ve won things that I’ve given away, things that I’m saving for Christmas, things that I put to use right away.

      So yeah, it’s worth it!

And I will keep entering sweepstakes until, for whatever reason, I’m unable to find the time!
