Amazon 17 Days of Deals in Video Games

In case you don’t already know, Amazon has been having a daily video game deal other than the B1G1 50% off I posted about earlier.  They’re currently on day 10, so there’s only a week left, but better I bring it to you late than never right?

Today, the deal is steep discounts off Playstation hits, including Little Big Planet, The God of War collection (includes I and II), God of War III, Uncharted II: Among Thieves, Modnation Racers, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and Resistance 2.

You can save anywhere from $10-$20 off those games, making some over 50% off!

Amazon Video Games B1G1 50% Off! [Deal]

To kick off my push for posting more tech deals and steals, Amazon has a bunch of great video game deals going on right now.  Whether you’re buying video games as gifts this Christmas or want to expand your collection, check out Amazon’s Buy One Get One Half Off Video Games and Accessories deal.

There are pages upon pages of games and accessories to look through, including games (some new releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops and Dragon Age: Origins), Wii controllers, Xbox 360 controllers, Wii accessories (like the Mariokart wheel), and more.  Don’t ignore the tabs up top to categorize the deals by platform (Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, etc.).  Since they don’t have a tab for it, here’s a link to just the Kinect games included, some of which are already discounted.  You can pick up one game for $47, and the next for only around $25.  Pretty good deal for video games!

Anyway, there’s somewhere close to 20 pages of games and accessories to look through, so check it out!

J!NX.com [Review]

If you’re anything like me, fashion is something you simply don’t worry about.  Rather than pay attention to “what’s in this spring”, I concentrate my attentions on what video games are coming out or cool new gadgets.  For clothes, brand names like Aeropostale and Abercrombie are as important to me as the number of calories in bacon; I frankly couldn’t give a damn.  Usually, I just look for clothes that are comfortable and look good on me.  As a self-proclaimed nerd, though, shopping for clothes that express my love of D20s can be frustrating at best.
That is, until my boyfriend introduced me to J!NX!  When I first met him, BigJones’ shirt closet was exclusively J!NX.  Mostly, he wore this skeleton shirt, and a lot of shirts with an iconic nerdy skull.  I have never heard of J!NX before, but he wasted no time in informing me that he would only buy shirts from that online store.  I’ve been browsing their site for gifts for him ever since.  Then, with the Holiday Gift Giveaway Hop (now closed, hope you entered!) coming up, I decided to contact them to see if they’d donate a gift certificate.  When they said yes and ALSO offered to send me swag to review, I was thrilled!
The awesome Geekgods at J!NX were generous enough to give me a $30 gift code to pick a couple things from the site to review.  Knowing BigJones would be furious if I didn’t get him something, I let him pick first, then I chose a stylish women’s shirt to review for myself.  Here’s the results:
Front of 42 J!NX TeeFlufferwuffer's New J!NX Tee
Back of 42 J!NX Tee

Durability.  I already knew what to expect, here.  As I mentioned before, BigJones has been a long-time fan of J!NX, having quite a collection when I met him almost 3 years ago.  Guess what?  He still has every shirt.  Yes, every last one.  And they’re all still in great condition.  Sure, some of his shirts may have lost a little bit of luster (designs slightly faded and cracked, a few holes from wear and tear), but they are all totally wearable and still awesome.  Just to prove it, here’s a pic I took of one of his shirts (which he got about 5 years ago), compared to the picture from the J!NX site:
Ryan's 5-year-old J!NX Tee
Obviously, pretty durable!  I know I can expect the shirts we just received to last for years.

Price.  J!NX shirts can cost anywhere from $10 to $25.  Normally, $25 can be pretty high for me, but considering they’ll last for years to come, they’re very affordable.  With lots of sales and a $10 shirt section, which has a lot of cool styles I might add (that’s where I picked up my shirt!), they’re even more cost-friendly and effective.  And as I’ll mention later, members have even more opportunities to save at J!NX.

Selection/Design.  There are hundreds upon hundreds of designs available from J!NX.  Whether you’re a gamer, D&D player, or just an internet aficionado, there are dozens of options that you’re sure to like.  Though there are some designs I’m not a fan of, I’m bound to find at least 20 or so shirts I’d like after browsing for a few minutes.  And J!NX is constantly adding new stuff, since they regularly hold design contests where fans submit their own designs.  Browsing the women’s section, the only issue I have is that they are out of so many styles (which, I guess, is more of a problem of too many women who are J!NX fans!).  There is always an option of getting an e-mail notification when a specific design and size are in stock, though!

Cool Other Stuffs.  There are a few things other than T-shirts that are awesome about J!NX.  First, they also offer things like dress shirts, pants/sweatpants, hoodies/sweatshirts, stickers, buttons, underwear, and lots more.  Many of the dress shirts are really nice, and I’m secretly thinking of buying BigJones a couple of them.
There’s also a forum on the site, where you can go to discuss…just about anything geektastic!  I haven’t really looked around it all that much (mostly because I don’t have time!) but if that’s your thing, I’d take a look!
Lastly, if you become a member of J!NX, you have the opportunity to earn J!NX Gold and J!NX EXP.  You earn points from making purchases, referrals, posting pics of you in your J!NX clothes, commenting, and more.  J!NX Gold earns you real money to use on your purchases!  100 Gold = $1.  J!NX EXP lets you earn additional things in the shop.  For example, earning 950 EXP means you’ll earn 1% more J!NX Gold and J!NX EXP on orders and referrals, and earning 1500 gets you a free sticker pack.

The Bottom Line.  I’ll definitely be shopping at J!NX again.  And often.  This is a site I’ve tested and trust; I know I can expect awesome shirts to express my nerdalicious ways.

Connect With The Company.

Disclaimer:  I received a gift code from J!NX to make a purchase and review products.  However, I received no other compensation and my review and any opinions expressed are my opinion and are 100% honest.  I don’t blur the lines.

Still Gift Shopping? Try Cooking.com

Not many of you may know this about me, but I love being in the kitchen.  I absolutely love baking and cooking.  Consequently, something I spend more than my fair share of doing is browsing the kitchen department of stores and websites.
Naturally, I found about 20 things I wanted while browsing just the cookware section of Cooking.com.  From yogurt makers to space invader ice trays to giant cookie cake pans, there are plenty of options for gadgeteers or kitchenistas.
imageOne item I’ve had my eye on for awhile is this Prodyne Fruit Infusion Pitcher.  BigJones and I don’t drink much plain water, and we go through a lot of powdered lemonade mix.  This fruit infusion pitcher would be an absolutely perfect alternative.  This is a terribly simple yet spectacular invention that would allow us to enjoy fresh fruit-flavored water at any time.  Lime water?  Easy.  Lemon water? A snitch.  Lemon-lime water? Mixin’ it up.  Mango water?  Oooh, exotic!  One of the best perks to me is that depending on what fruit you use, it’s super cost-effective.
I absolutely love the appearance of this pitcher as well.  Very curvy and sleek.  It’s see-through so you know what fruit is being infused with the water.  I’d imagine you could amaze your friends with some tricks; for example, put ice cubes frozen with red-dyed water with strawberries in the infuser, and as the ice melts, the red dye will slowly cloud the water.  Yes…I have a lot of ideas for this pitcher!
Sure, this may not be super high tech, or obviously nerdy like some other products I write about.  But for me, there’s something totally attractive about these types of simplistic inventions that frankly make life a little better.  And as I mentioned before, there are multiple other kitchen gadgets available on the site!
You can get this pitcher at Cooking.com for only $24.95.  A very affordable Christmas gift (or treat for yourself) if you ask me.  But if you want to save a little extra, I suggest following Cooking.com on facebook and twitter.  Periodically, you might just catch some savings from their social media outlets!
What kinds of kitchen commodities do you pine for?  Or do you have a cooking guru on your Christmas gift list?

Disclosure:  I am receiving a gift certificate to Cooking.com in exchange for this post.  However, all opinions are, and will forever be, my own.

Kinect Kicks Wii’s Ass!

All right, this is going to be a quick post, so I’m not going to back this up with articles, pictures, or videos.

Seriously, Kinect is awesome.  The first day we got it (November 4th), BigJones and I played for at least 4 hours.  We don’t have any games for it other than Kinect Adventures, the game it comes with, but it was so fun.

I am so glad we opted to get Kinect rather than getting a Wii. Granted, I’ve only played the Wii a few times, but playing Wii Sports is absolutely nothing like Kinect Adventures.  There’s something about not having to hold a controller, jumping around on a raft, getting a workout, and actually having fun doing it that just blows Wii out of the water.

I cannot wait to get more games for Kinect, but that doesn’t mean we’re getting bored with Kinect Adventures.

The other thing I absolutely love about Kinect is the face recognition and voice commands.  I really hope that they integrate the voice commands throughout Xbox and Kinect games, so you can just say “Xbox, pause!” at any time while you’re playing to pause the game.  The face recognition is awesome; you just have to use Kinect ID a few times for it to recognize you in almost any lighting.  And it’s so awesome playing as your Xbox avatar.

So basically, Kinect is awesome.  If you don’t have an Xbox, I can see how it would be too expensive (4GB Xbox 360 + Kinect bundle is $300).  But if you have an Xbox 360, I don’t see how you would not want Kinect.  Unless, of course, you hate moving around while having fun, or breaking a sweat while gaming.  Sure, I’m not going to stop playing Halo or Red Dead Redemption, but Kinect is just damn fun.

Have any of you tried Kinect?  I’d love to hear what you think!

1 Week Until Kinect!—Game Options

With only one week until Kinect is delivered to my door, I’m pretty dang excited.  Similar to the Wii, Kinect already comes with a came called “Kinect Adventures", but obviously that’s not going to satiate all of us.  Good news is there are 17 games being released on November 4th with Kinect, so you can take your pick of other activities to try on this new system!

Here’s a list:

  • Kinectimals
  • Kinect Adventures
  • Dance Central
  • Motion Sports
  • Kinect Sports
  • Kinect Joy Ride
  • Game Party: In Motion
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1
  • Your Shape: Fitness Evolved
  • The Biggest Loser Ultimate Workout
  • DanceMaster
  • EA Sports Active 2
  • Zumba Fitness
  • Deca Sports Freedom
  • Adrenalin Misfits
  • Fighters Uncaged
  • Sonic Free Riders

It’s pretty obvious that Microsoft is gearing Kinect towards the same Wii psychos.  Fitness games, party games, kids’ games.  The only game that isn’t suitable for any ages is “Fighters Uncaged”.

What do you think?  What games would you get with Kinects’s release (even if you’re not getting Kinect…it’s called imagination!)?

Micah Myers’ Comic Book Creations [Review]

I have a really awesome product to review for you today!  Now, many of you probably do not know this, but I used to be hugely into comic books.  Instead of waiting at Gamestop for the midnight release of Halo, my sister and I would beg our parents to drive us to the nearest (actually, the only) comic book store so we could get the latest issue of X-men or Justice League.  We’d spend hours poring over back issues, finding gems that weren’t in our collection yet.  Though I don’t have the money to regularly buy and read comics anymore, I still hope to finish my Excalibur collection one day.
image So, when I first happened upon Micah Myers’ Etsy shop, I knew I would be contacting him for a review.   But before I get to that, here’s a little about his shop.  Micah started creating comic book wallets after seeing another person selling them for $20.  Micah liked his design, and decided to start selling his own wallets at a super-affordable price of $3 for any wallet.  Along with wallets, Micah also sells coin purses and necklaces, and has experimented with boxes and picture frames.
I received a Martian Manhunter comic book wallet to review.  Now, I should say a few things first.  I’ve only owned one wallet in my whole life, and it was one of those fat, girly, I-shop-at-Aeropostale-and-Claire’s wallets.  I’ve had it since I was in junior high, but I don’t use it because I don’t carry a purse and any decent wallet I can find just will not fit in my pockets without looking completely ridiculous.  I was pleasantly surprised when I received this wallet from Micah Myers’ Comic Book Creations
This wallet is awesome.  It’s thin, it’s slick, it’s everything I’ve been searching for in a wallet.
IMG_2082Design. I think it’s awesome how well this was made.  Just look at it.  The wallet stretched out shows a full picture of the Martian Manhunter (by a very good artist by the way).  Micah obviously knows what he’s doing when he makes these; this isn’t just thrown together.  Open up the wallet and there is not only a large compartment for cash; there are two sleeves for credit cards, gift cards, etc.  That was way more than I was expecting!  I don’t carry a lot of cash with me, but I’m so glad that I have a place to put my cards.  At first I was worried that there wouldn’t be aIMG_2080 lot of room for multiple cards because of how super-ultra thin it looks.  But this wallet easily fits in all the cards I can stuff in it…hell, just to  test it, I fit a whole deck of cards in both sides.  Tight fit, but it can be done!
Durability.  These wallets are made out of real comic book pages, so by themselves they would be very flimsy and tear easily.  To get around this, Micah expertly lines the wallets with shelving paper.  This is to make the wallets more durable, and protect from water.  Micah warns, though, that the wallets aren’t waterproof.  I knew that for the review, I should test  this, but I was afraid of ruining the wallet.  Well, it got tested for me.  One night while BigJones and I were sleeping, the cats knocked over a glass full of stale root beer, which pooled around my precious wallet.  When I woke up in the morning and discovered this, I frantically wiped off the wallet, only to find that there was absolutely no damage whatsoever!  None of the soda got through, and the wallet IMG_2088wasn’t even sticky, after being in the mess for hours. Hooray!  The only concerns I have is that the corners are easily bent, but they are just as easy to bend back.  I wouldn’t recommend trying to tear the wallet, either; it might not hold up.  But it does stand up to everyday use.
Price. $3.  Flat.  Shipping is $2 in the U.S., but only $.50 with another item.  They will ship anywhere, though, for only a little bit extra!  With Christmas coming, these would make excellent stocking stuffers.
Overall.  I am so happy with this wallet.  As I said before, it’s everything I ever wanted:  simple, geeky, thin, and affordable!  Sure, it won’t last forever, but at only $3 a wallet, one of these won’t be hard to replace, either.  I can definitely say that I’ll get another wallet, maybe with Nightcrawler? Oh, did I mention that if you request a certain character or comic with your wallet, it doesn’t cost any extra?
Connect.

Um…there just may be a giveaway for some Comic Book Wallets.  You might want to look.  Maybe?
Disclosure: I received a wallet to review free of charge from Micah Myers’ Comic Book Creations.  However, all opinions are mine, as they always will be.

The Geeklist: Coffee Edition

All right, so by now, most of you know that I’ve been struggling to sate my caffeine addiction.  I haven’t had coffee in two weeks. TWO WEEKS!!! That’s way too long for someone who used to have a pot a day.

So, since I’ve been daydreaming about everything coffee, I decided to create my own geeky wishlist of 5 coffee-related things I’m geeking out over!

Cool Beans Ice Tray from Lazybone

image

Cool Beans?  I agree! These would be perfect for making iced coffee.  Or just awesomely-shaped ice cubes (or beans?) for water or lemonade.  I wantz this!

Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans by Chargers

image

Chocolate. Covered.  Espresso. Beans.

Coffee + Chocolate = Sex

Need I say more?

Self Stirring Mug from ThinkGeek

image

Unless black coffee is your favorite, I think you’d love this just like I do.

Self-stirring mug! So instead of wasting those precious seconds mixing creamer and sugar, your mug will do it for you. Oh, luxuries.

The Brugo Mug

image

What makes this mug so special?  It’s the first of its kind to have a “temperature control chamber” so no matter how boiling hot your coffee is, it’s just the right temp when you take a sip.

I really want to try one of these!

Xelsis Digital ID SLX 8870 MS by Saeco

image

This is more than likely the most expensive thing on my wishlist, but this is so freaking cool.  This coffee machine comes equipped with a fingerprint reader that will brew your coffee specifically to your tastes.  Kick ass!

I won’t lie; I’m drooling over this.  I wonder if anyone would think I’m being a little too wishful if I tack this on to my Christmas list (it does run you $2,500)?

So what do you think of my Geeklist?  See something missing on my list that is geeky-and-coffee-related that is a must have?  Link to it or just mention it!

Digital Soaps: New Scents and Stocking Stuffers!

IMG_2030You guys remember my Digital Soaps review, right?  Well, I love their soaps so much that I would promote them again by letting you know about some new things at both DigitalSoaps.net and the Digital Soaps Etsy shop!

First off, some delicious-sounding scents have been added!  A few of the sensational new scents include Coconut Lime Verbana, Cranberry, Mint Chocolate Chip, Pear Glaze, Peppermint Sandalwood, and Rich Dark Chocolate.  To add to the soda theme, there’s 7-UP Pound Cake. Awesome, no?

And, as if these geeky soaps can get any geekier, Digital Soaps is also adding a “Stocking Stuffer” line, imageall of which are perfect gifts for the holidays! The best part is that all are under $5!  My favorite is the  Pokemon Red Version Cartridge Replica.  Look at that baby! It’s so realistic!  And only $2!  I might buy a bunch of these for myself and secretly overflow my stocking with them Christmas Eve…

Microsoft Spokesperson Claims that Kinect > iPad This Holiday Season

  ProjectNatalSensor_web

Though I hate to seem like I’m contradicting yesterday’s hot gadget of the holidays iPad post, this is something I had to share.  Microsoft spokesperson Kudo Tsunoda said in a recent interview that he expects Kinect to “blow away” iPad sales when it comes out November 10th.

Tsunoda says that preorder sales of Kinect have been great, and the Xbox 360 is already selling better than the Wii and the PS3.  So, there might be some truth to his claim.

However, considering the millions of iPads that have already been sold (and the millions that will be sold during the holidays), the Kinect will have a long way to go.

I’ll be one helping them beat out the iPad though!  BigJones and I are super-excited to get Kinect (and the new Xbox 360)!

What about you? Will you be getting Kinect?

Who Wants an iPad?

Everyone, apparently.

And that’s why big retailers like Best Buy, Target, and Walmart are projecting that the iPad will be the “hot, must-have gadget” of Christmas 2010.

image

Best Buy has reported an impressive 61% spike in quarterly profit thanks to sales of smartphones and iPad-like devices. Best Buy, Target, and Walmart all plan to have a plethora of iPads in stock for the holiday season.  With amazing sales already, it’s not very surprising that iPads and iPad accessories will be the big hit of the holiday season!

image

Personally, though, I’m not too interested in the iPad.  Me + Touchscreen devices = disaster.  I haven’t quite gotten used to it.  It will probably be a few years for me before I even get a phone with touchscreen capabilities, and even then all my friends will think it’s the sign of the apocalypse.  So no iPad for me.

What about you guys?  Are you hoping for an iPad this Christmas?

On a separate, Christmas-y note, would you be interested if I created a “2010 Holiday Geek Guide”?
